Comedy Central has ordered a pilot from YouTube star Franchesca Ramsey!
Vanity Fair reported the order of the untitled project and Comedy Central hasn’t revealed many details about the show. Ramsey’s pilot is one of nine pilots Comedy Central ordered and the network has not yet announced its run date or whether it will get picked up for a series.
“We just feel like there’s a great opportunity there to talk about different types of people that are part of this world and part of our nation and just really finding a way to separate ourselves from what we already see on television and I’m so excited that Comedy Central has faith in this to do that in a really compelling but also funny way,” Ramsey said in a statement to The Huffington Post.
Ramsey will serve as executive producer on the pilot and work with her team from MTV’s Decoded, which she produces and hosts. Per Ramsey, the pilot will be an evolution of the MTV series.
A comedian, writer, activist and producer, Ramsey was first-known as a natural hair/comedy YouTube creator/partner who has since amassed over 200,000 subscribers. She was also a writer and contributor for The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore in early 2016. Ramsey hosts a podcast with her husband Patrick called Last Name Basis where the couple discuss their lives and the world around them.
Ramsey possibly running her own show in a White-male-dominated late night television world is a huge deal! “I’m just really excited to expose people to different identities, different conversations but also to kind of reframe how they think about black women just by being myself,” she noted.
Congrats to Francheska Ramsey and we look forward to what is sure to be hilarious and thought-provoking content!
