Zoey is off to college! Yara Shahidi (Black-ish) will be starring in her own spin-off show, College-ish! Freeform has ordered the spin-off from the hit ABC series and will air in 2018.

College-ish will co-star Dean Cole and a new set of actors. The show will follow Zoey as she navigates her new campus and tackles complex world issues complicating universities across the country. Black-ish’s creator, Kenya Barris also came up with the concept of College-ish.

“I never thought they’d let me put ‘Black-ish’ on the air, let alone give me a spinoff,” said Barris to Variety. ‘I couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity to continue working with Yara and the rest of this talented young cast. To any aspiring writers struggling to make it out there, I highly advise adding an ‘–ish’ to any working title you might have. It seems to be the move.”

Yara Shahidi started her career at the tender age of 6, appearing in television and print ads for companies such as McDonald’s, Ralph Lauren, Target, GapKids, Disney, Guess Kids, and The Children’s Place. Her film debut was opposite Eddie Murphy in Imagine That, for which she received a Young Artist Award nomination for Best performance in a Feature Film. For Black-ish, she took home a 2014 NAACP Image Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy. Last year, she signed on to model with New York Women Management modeling agency in hopes to provide a platform for more women of color in diverse roles.

Congrats to the widely talented Yara Shahidi! We look forward to this next venture for Zoey and we’ll surely be tuned in!
