Pioneer director Cheryl Dunye is set to write and direct The Wonder of All Things for Lionsgate!  The supernatural novel was written by Jason Mott and revolves around 13-year old Ava, who discovers her healing powers after saving the life of her friend Wash following a plane disaster at an air show.

Dunye began her career with six short films which have been collected on DVD as The Early Works of Cheryl Dunye.  Her feature debut was The Watermelon Woman (1996), a film which explored the history of black women and lesbians in filmand made cinematic history as the first feature-length narrative film written and directed by an out black lesbian about black lesbians.

Dunye’s second feature was the HBO produced television movie Stranger Inside, and she went on to direct My Baby’s Daddy in 2004 and The Owls in 2010. Recently, Dunye was chosen by powerhouse film director Ava DuVernay to join the all female directorial team of the OWN hit series Queen Sugar.  Shortly after her work on Queen Sugar Dunye went on to direct an episode of the Freeform series The Fosters, the TNT series Claws, and is also developing a feature version of her short film Black Is Blue.

We are excited to see more work from Dunye as the rest of the world finally catches up to the talent of this powerhouse director!
