Netflix has released it’s trailer for Burning Sands! The Netflix original film follows the world of fraternity hazing and explores the complicated bonds of brotherhood via a raw and voyeuristic journey.
Burning Sands made its world debut at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, and marks the feature directorial debut of Gerard McMurray (producer, Fruitvale Station). The film stars Trevor Jackson (ABC’s American Crime) in a breakout performance, along with Alfre Woodard, Steve Harris, Trevante Rhodes, Tosin Cole, DeRon Horton, Imani Hakim and Serayah.
The film was written by Christine Berg alongside McMurray and produced by legendary producer Stephanie Allain (Something New, Hustle & Flow), Jason Michael Berman, Reginald Hudlin and Mel Jones. It is executive produced by Caroline Connor and Common.
In regards to the focus of this site, we must point out that Stephanie Allain is a seasoned producer who has been working in Hollywood for over two decades. She was the studio executive behind classic films in the 90’s such as Boyz in the Hood and Poetic Justice. She then went on to produce films such as Hustle & Flow, Something New starring Sanaa Lathan, Dear White People, and most recently produced Beyond the Lights directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood. This spring Allain wrapped production on the Hulu digital pilot Crushed, a series revolving around a black family as they find success in the winemaking business in Napa, California, and is currently the executive producer of Justin Simen’s upcoming Netflix series Dear White People. Allain is attached to the upcoming Misty Copeland biopic Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina.
