Deadline reports that Anika Noni Rose,will star in the 2 hour scripted BET pilot titled The Yard alongside Peyton Alex Smith, Ruben Santiago-Hudson (BillionsAmerican Gangster), Sean Blakemore (General Hospital), and Jasmine Guy (The Vampire Diaries).  Felicia D. Henderson (Single Ladies, Soul Food) will serve as executive producer and Rob Hardy (The Vampire Diaries, Empire) will direct.

The Tony Award winning actress (Caroline, or Change) will portray Eva, described as “the newly elected President of the fictional college Georgia A&M. Upon her arrival, Eva finds a bold, brazen and diverse freshman class that promises to keep her hands full.”

Rose starred in the screen adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Dreamgirls in 2006 and went on to the Disney animated feature The Princess And The Frog, where she was the voice of Princess Tiana that made her Disney’s first African-American princess.  Anika’s other film credits include For Colored Girls, Just Add Water, and Half of a Yellow Sun.  She has also has numerous TV credits including The Good Wife, Elementary, Private Practice, and A Day Late and a Dollar Short based on the Terry McMillan novel.  Anika is a three-time NAACP Image Award nominee, and can be seen next as Kizzy on History Channel’s Roots remake, and on the new season of Power that will be returning this summer.
