Amandla Stenberg is quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most sought out rising stars.  In addition to a slew of projects in development, she has officially joined the cast of  Darkest Minds, Fox’s adaptation of the YA trilogy by Alexandra Bracken.

Darkest Minds will be directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson, (King Fu Panda), written by Chad Hodge, and produced by Shawn Levy through his 21 Laps banner. Stenberg has been cast in the role of Ruby Daly, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Ruby’s powers come from an epidemic that kills off the majority of the children and teenagers in the Darkest Minds universe. Much like the other surviving young people who survived the mass wave of illness, Ruby is incarcerated in an internment camp for super powered teens, and naturally attempts to escape. The Darkest Minds was the series’ 2013 debut, with Never Fadereleasing in 2014 and In The After Light obviously closing off the series in 2015.

Stenberg was recently cast in Stella Meghie’s (Jean of the Joneses) MGM film adaptation of Nicola Yoon’s debut novel titled Everything, EverythingShe is also set to star in the Fox 2000 film titled, The Hate U Give, based on debut novel by Angela Thomas inspired by the Black Lives Matter Movement.  Her other credits include Hunger Games, As You Are, Sleepy Hollow, Rio 2, and she is currently in talks to star in the Amma Asante (Belle) period drama Where Hands Touch.
