Aaliyah Williams has been tapped to serve as the VP of Digital Content and Production for Charles King’s multi-media company, MACRO. Williams has been consulting with MACRO since November, and will now oversee the development of digital content that showcases diverse talent in front of and behind the camera.
“I couldn’t be more excited to have Aaliyah join us at MACRO. Her expansive knowledge of the digital arena, creative instincts and intelligence makes her a perfect addition to our team.” – Charles King
Williams is a Harvard graduate who previously ran content for Russell Simmon’s All Def Digital (ADD) and produced content for AOL and Fox Digital Studio. While at ADD, Aaliyah conceived, developed and produced comedy, music, and pop-culture series and sketches that amassed over 54 million views and sustained 280,000 subscribers with over 500 videos. Aaliyah later founded Just A Rebel, Inc., a production and strategy company that focuses on digital content and social media. Her first digital project with MACRO will be scripted comedy Gente-Fied starring America Ferrera. Ferrera will also executive produce this project alongside Williams, King, and the director and writer of the project, Marvin Lemus. Linda Yvette Chavez will co-write this series.
“I am thrilled to join the stellar team that Charles has assembled and expand the MACRO brand in the premium digital space. We have a compelling slate of projects with incredibly talented and diverse creators that we are excited to bring to market.” – Aaliyah Williams
Gente-Fied will follow seven characters living in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Boyle Heights. Each episode is seen through the point of view of a different character, from the bi-cultural Latinos trying to celebrate their cultural roots to the old school business owners trying to make sense of changes in the neighborhood that threaten their livelihoods.
In addition to Ferrera, the series will star Alicia Sixtos (East Los High), Art Bonilla, Edsson Morales, Rafael Sigler (The Bridge), Sal Velez, Victoria Ortiz and Yareli Arizmendi (Like Water for Chocolate). A trailer for this new series is below.

They are also in development on a post-World II drama with Dee Rees (Bessie, Pariah), and are developing a television series with Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale) and Chinaka Hodge.
