WATCH: Ava DuVernay’s ‘A Wrinkle In Time’ Release Date Revealed in #MannequinChallenge Video

The official release date for Ava DuVernay’s Disney adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time has been released through a teaser video that DuVernay posted via Twitter consisting of 102 crew members from 27 different departments participating in a two minute #MannequinChallenge.  In the final few seconds, the video pans over to DuVernay and Storm Reid before revealing the movie’s release date of April 6, 2018 — the weekend following Easter Sunday.

A Wrinkle In Time‘s cast includes Storm Reid, Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Zach Galifianakis, Mindy Kaling, Chris Pine and Gugu Mbatha-Raw.

A Wrinkle In Time revolves around a young girl whose government scientist father has gone missing after working on a mysterious project called a ‘tesseract,’ which involves being transported to a fifth dimension with mysterious inhabited planets. She takes part in a search for her father and sees some incredible creatures along the way. Winfrey will play the role of Mrs. Which, the most mysterious of the three unusual beings who arrive to help Meg and Charles Wallace find their missing father.

The script was penned by Oscar-winning Frozen writer and co-director Jennifer Lee, and Tobias A. Schliessler (Dreamgirls) will serve as the director of photography.  The team also includes production designer Naomi Shohan (American Beauty), costume designer Paco Delgado (The Danish Girl), and visual effects supervisor Rich McBride (Gravity).

Production on A Wrinkle in Time will primarily take place in Los Angeles, with two weeks of filming scheduled for New Zealand to capture the fantastical worlds of the film.  We look forward to the evolution of DuVernay’s interpretation of this adaptation!
