The CW has officially released the trailer for upcoming series Black Lightning written by Mara Brock & Salim Akil!
Based on the DC character created by Tony Isabella with Trevor Von Eeden, Black Lightning centers on Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams). He made his choice: He hung up the suit and his secret identity years ago, but with a daughter, Jennifer, hellbent on justice and a star student being recruited by a local gang, he’ll be pulled back into the fight as the wanted vigilante and DC legend Black Lightning. Nafessa Williams (Code Black), China Anne McClain (House of Payne) and Christine Adams star.
Black Lightning is the first series to feature an African-American superhero as its lead on a major network (Netflix, of course, has the Marvel drama Luke Cage)
The series will be executive produced by the Akil’s alongside Gerg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions– the same company behind all WBTV superhero series’ on the CW including: DC’s Supergirl, Arrow, The Flash, Legends Of Tomorrow and the upcoming Archie Comics adaptation Riverdale, all of which were co-created by Berlanti
The Akil’s spent the last five years under overall deals at BET where they created and executive produced Being Mary Jane, the network’s first one-hour scripted series starring Gabrielle Union. The duo served as consultants on the fourth season that aired back in January, while maintaining their executive producer credit on the series. They recently inked a pilot production commitment on a multi-camera comedy titled Documenting Love at ABC.
